A bit of colour when your blue...

I bowled in from work late tonight. Must have been around half past nine and frankly it had been one of those days where everything seems to be stacking up against you. Not a frame of mind for getting creative in the kitchen I can tell you. So, feeling more than a shade blue, not to mention tired and more than a bit crabby I needed something super quick that would also, hopefully, lighten my mood.
It seems common wisdom to hit the sweets when your feeling low. Get that tub of ice-cream out or chow down on that chocolate bar in the fridge but that always leaves me feeling worse than before, probably guilt more than anything. Tonight, I grabbed tomatoes, some mozzarella and a handful of the basil that grows on my kitchen window sill. It probably took no more that 5 minutes to throw together and before wolfing it down, just took a minute to look at the plate I'd so hastily thrown together. On a good day it wouldn't be something you'd give second thought to, let alone post on a blog. But just looking down at the vibrant red baby plums, the creamy ivory of the cheese and the greens of the basil reminded me that good things to eat are always there to cheer you, it takes no time really, and it always brings a grin to this old tired face.

for a second there i thought the mozzarella WAS icecream. It wouldn't have been the strangest thing I'd ever heard of.
